Dictation: speak anywhere on your Mac

Some things are faster said than typed. Press the dictation hotkey anywhere on your Mac — an email, a document, a chat box — talk, and press it again. Handled turns what you said into clean text and types it where your cursor is.

Use it

1. 1Press the dictation hotkey. A small floating meter appears so you know it is listening.
2. 2Say what you want written. Speak normally — filler words and false starts are cleaned up.
3. 3Press the hotkey again. The polished text is inserted in place.

The hotkey is rebindable in Settings, and you can exclude apps you never want to dictate into.

Permissions

The first time you use it, macOS will ask for microphone access. Speech is processed on your device — dictation inserts text and saves nothing.
